If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive, we’ll create a treatment plan tailored to you that prioritises the safety of both you and your baby.
It’s important that you feel fully informed before starting treatment, so you can weigh up the potential benefits and uncertainties alongside any possible risks.
A few ingredients we'll never include
During this time, we'll never formulate your solution with:
Minoxidil
Melatonin
Tretinoin
Finasteride
Dutasteride
These ingredients carry a potential risk of harm in certain cases, so we take a cautious approach and leave them out entirely.
Medical research on how certain ingredients affect pregnant women is extremely limited, because studies simply aren't permitted in this group. What we do know comes from animal studies and the documented experiences of women who have used these ingredients during pregnancy.
What you can expect from your treatment
If you have told us that you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive, our Dermatology Team will not prescribe oral treatments. Instead, we focus on topical (liquid) options.
Topical treatments work through the skin, which acts as a natural barrier. This means only a small amount of any active ingredient is absorbed into your bloodstream. While overall exposure is expected to be low, we still take a cautious approach and avoid ingredients where there is uncertainty about safety.
It’s also important to know that finasteride and dutasteride are never prescribed to women of childbearing potential, regardless of whether they are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive, due to the known risks these medications pose to a developing foetus.
Below, you'll find the evidence behind your treatment. Please take a moment to read through as we want you to feel confident and informed every step of the way.
Niacinamide
Niacinamide is a hardworking topical ingredient that does a lot of good. Loved by dermatologists for its skin benefits, niacinamide also helps promote hair growth and thickness, support keratin synthesis, boost circulation and lock in moisture, all while protecting against environmental damage and calming any skin redness or inflammation.
We know pregnancy isn’t always straightforward and there are often individual factors to take into account when deciding whether a treatment is suitable.
Our base solution
The Drops are a suspension in an aqueous (mostly water-based) vehicle, meaning the active ingredients are mixed through the liquid rather than fully dissolved. The formula does contain some essential oils and you can find the full list of base ingredients in our patient information leaflet.
We’d always recommend that you discuss taking any new medication with the GP or healthcare provider looking after you during this time.
